ECCV’s focus is local – here in Victoria is where we have most impact – and yet we all know that overseas conflicts have repercussions for local communities.
ECCV’s CEO, Farah Farouque, said:
Migration does not mean shedding your identity, your family or other ties overseas.
Many multicultural communities are deeply distressed from events unfolding in the Middle East and Central Asia.
ECCV continues to call for peace, dialogue and restraint where there is violent conflict and brute force. We know this is a really challenging time for everyone.
Free local support for individuals and communities across Australia is available.
The Witness to War National Multilingual Telephone Hotline – 1800 845 198 – is a confidential phone service for anyone impacted by overseas conflict.
The service operates from 9am-8pm, Monday to Friday (but not public holidays).
The helpline is for individuals, families and communities who are distressed about overseas events, have friends and family abroad, need someone to talk to, or need help finding information about useful services and support.
There are no restrictions on visa type, date of arrival to Australia or age to access the service.
Call 1800 845 198 to access the free helpline. For more information, visit this website.
