ECCV has partnered with the Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing – PICAC VIC (project lead), the National Ageing Research Institute and Icon Agency to produce a new report exploring the needs of aged care providers in regional Victoria. The report directly responds to recommendations from the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety relating to the needs of disadvantaged older people.
Data shows that the availability of aged care services in outer regional and remote areas is significantly lower than in major cities and has declined in recent years, meaning that the needs of older people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds living in regional, rural, and remote areas require particular attention.
To prepare the report, the research team consulted with aged care providers and key stakeholders on the needs of seniors from migrant and refugee backgrounds, including members of new and emerging communities in regional and rural Victoria. The report makes 10 key findings and highlights the need for greater support to help regional seniors stay socially connected and digitally savvy.
