Anti-Racism
Anti-racism is a core tenet of ECCV’s work, and has been since our inception in 1974. We have contributed to a range of policy and advocacy initiatives and led a number of projects to strengthen the foundations for a Victoria that is inclusive, socially cohesive and safe and vibrant for all.
ECCV played a key role in the development of Victoria’s Anti-Racism Strategy, the state’s first comprehensive plan to address racism. As a member of the Anti-Racism Taskforce, we continue to support implementation of the Strategy’s recommendations. ECCV also helped design the Local Anti-Racism Initiative grants program, which supports community-led responses to racism.
ECCV contributed to the Victorian Multicultural Review through consultations and a submission focused on tackling racism, strengthening support for multicultural communities and rebuilding social cohesion.
One of ECCV’s flagship anti-racism projects has been All One Together, which focused on supporting workplaces to advance their diversity and inclusion policies and practices. More than 25 organisations became All One Together ambassadors, taking the pledge to transform their workplaces into spaces that are culturally safe and inclusive.
Latest Updates
Islamophobia Resources
A recent spate of attacks targeting Muslim communities in Victoria – including in the regions – are deeply disturbing.
STATEMENT: Attack in Bondi
As the voice of multicultural Victoria, we express our profound sorrow for the atrocity that took place during an outdoor religious event for the Jewish community in Sydney on Sunday.
STATEMENT: Anti-Immigration Rallies
ECCV has zero tolerance for hate. The so-called ‘March for Australia’ rallies on 31 August do not speak to the inclusive values of our dynamic modern Australia.
Reducing racism
ECCV is supporting a Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (VEOHRC) initiative that supports people to report experiences of racism, discrimination, hate speech religious vilification and human rights concerns.
The Community Reporting Tool (CRT) is a quick way to report what has happened, or what you are worried about. The CRT does not replace making a complaint but allows community members to log an incident while having the option to take the matter further.
All information shared in the CRT will be provided directly to the VEOHRC. ECCV will not hold any information. Personal details of a community
member are treated in strictest confidence in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014 (Vic), and the Australian Privacy Principles.
