Representing Whittlesea Multicultural Communities Council
I have been an active advocate for multicultural communities in Victoria for the past 10 years. As a former refugee, I have the lived experience of the challenges many refugee/ migrant and newly arrived communities face in Australia, which allowed me to lead a number of multicultural organisations and social enterprises.
I am passionate about making a positive change in the life of people with migrant and refugee experience, through true understanding of the challenges faced by these communities and through effective systemic solutions that implement a strength-based human-centered approach.
I am currently a board member of the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria where I am the convenor of the Intercultural Youth Advocacy Leaders (IYAL) group, and the co-chair of the New and Emerging Communities Policy Advisory Committee, as well as being a board member of the Greater Shepparton Lighthouse Project.
I also sit on a number of advisory boards including: Whittlesea Council’s Multicultural External Reference Group, Victoria Police’s Muslim Leadership advisory group, The Department of Jobs, Precincts and Regions’ Inner Metropolitan Partnership. Professionally, I am the strategic partnerships lead for Spectrum Migrant Resource Centre.
I have just finished my appointment as a community representative Commissioner on the Victorian Multicultural Commission and I am the founder and CEO of “Culture & Co”. I believe I will utilise the board membership to advocate for innovative solutions to the challenges all multicultural communities face, especially during a Covid recovery phase, as well as advancing youth leadership in Victoria as well as within ECCV.
