Announcement of CEO Mo Elrafihi’s departure

Jun 7, 2024

Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria (ECCV) chairperson Eddie Micallef today announced the departure of Mo Elrafihi as Chief Executive Officer.

Following this week’s 50th anniversary celebration, Mo Elrafihi will finish in the role on 14 June.

During his time at ECCV, Mo has been instrumental in shaping significant initiatives, including developing a new Strategic Plan, building stronger relationships with the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria, fostering staff wellbeing, securing the Hon. Steve Bracks as ECCV’s Patron and putting ECCV in a stronger financial position.

An independent recruitment process will begin for this important leadership role. Building on the strong foundations established under Mo’s leadership, this will be an exciting opportunity to lead the organisation into the next chapter and help shape the future of multicultural policy in Victoria.

During this transition period, our priority is to continue our advocacy and to support our members, communities and stakeholders.

Over the next weeks, we will be advertising widely to find a new CEO for ECCV. During this process, it is our priority to find the best individual to lead, while still maintaining a stable and effective organisation.

“Mo Elrafihi has been a true change agent for ECCV; his leadership has significantly shaped our path forward. We are grateful for his dedication and the strong foundations he has laid for the organisation and putting ECCV in a stronger financial position. We wish Mo all the best in his future endeavours.

Quotes attributable to Mo Elrafihi, outgoing CEO:

“It has been an honour to serve as CEO of ECCV.  I’ve had the privilege of contributing to significant initiatives and developing a strong plan for ECCV to continue delivering for its members and the multicultural communities of Victoria well into the future.

As ECCV transitions from developing to implementing its new Strategic Plan, I believe the timing is right for this change.

While I will be sad to bid farewell to my team, board, and the ECCV community, I want to express my appreciation to the ECCV Chair and Board for the opportunity to lead the organisation at a critical time.”
