The Victorian Government is in the process of developing a new Mental Health and Wellbeing Act. The Act will incorporate major recommendations from the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
ECCV’s submission focuses on the need for human rights, cultural safety and intersectional approaches to be built into the Act. The rights of consumers from migrant and refugee backgrounds to access interpreters and culturally safe services need to be reflected in the law. ECCV also recommends creating mechanisms for oversight and decision-making to build in the perspectives of people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
