Workshop: Towards a New and Emerging Communities Policy Advisory Committee
June 23 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
ECCV is establishing a New and Emerging Communities Policy Advisory Committee (NECPAC).
To help to set up the Committee, we will be holding an online community consultation workshop on Thursday 23 June, and we want to hear your feedback to a survey. This feedback will help us get a better understanding of the priorities for new and emerging communities, and how the NECPAC should be run.
ECCV recognises that new and emerging communities have a range of specific challenges, needs and strengths. We would like to create the NECPAC to address these needs and provide a forum for new and emerging communities to share experiences and challenges, and to collaborate to move forward.
What is a new and emerging community?
Most new and emerging communities are from a refugee or other humanitarian background. Many new and emerging communities are smaller in number compared to more established communities. Most new and emerging community members arrived in Australia in the past 10 years, coming from countries in the Middle East, Southwest Asia, Central Asia and Africa. They may not have had opportunities to develop English language skills before arriving in Australia. Many new and emerging communities have developed their own networks and support systems to address their needs, but they are often not connected to official sources of information, support and resources.
Please note that this workshop will be held online via Zoom.
If you are a member of a new and/or emerging community, please fill out the following survey by 10 June 2021.
Your responses will help ECCV understand how best to establish the NECPAC and the key issues impacting new and emerging communities in Victoria.
Registration for the workshop is essential. Register to receive your personal Zoom link and further information.
