I was a tax officer for over eighteen years. I was a union delegate, CPSU conference delegate, national executive member and was elected as a vice president CPSU tax division.
I am an active member of Darebin Ethnic Communities’ Council (DECC) for many years and in recent times, a chairperson. DECC’s principal role is advocacy on behalf of migrants to all three tiers of government. My time in DECC has profoundly reinforced my commitment to diversity, social inclusion and human rights.
DECC under my aegis has organised activities to raise awareness of Islamophobia and racism and to strengthen community harmony. DECC also played a role in supporting asylum seekers to settle and connect with the municipality of Darebin.
I am a member of the Victorian Tamil Association and a Sri Lankan Association of People for Human Rights and Equality. I am also an executive member of the Ethnic Communities’ Council of Victoria since 2018.
