ECCV warmly welcomes Chris Christoforou to the role of Executive Officer.

Chris has extensive management experience within both the education and community sectors.

Chris comes to ECCV from a peak Adult Education Institution in Victoria, the Centre for Adult Education where he worked managing the delivery of adult community education programs and projects for vulnerable cohorts, including people from new and emerging communities. Among his many professional experiences in education and training he has worked as a secondary teacher in remote Aboriginal communities, managed an alternative education program called ‘Fresh’ for at risk young people in the western region of Melbourne and established a successful outreach case management support service for early school leavers for Box Hill Institute (Reconnect).

In his role as General Manager, Education and Community Engagement for the Western Bulldogs, Chris led the establishment of a community resilience project in partnership with the Newport Islamic Society called More Than a Game. An outcome of this project was the creation of an intercultural Muslim-Jewish football team by young people in collaboration with the Western Bulldogs (Muju) which saw them compete in and win the AFL’s Multicultural Cup.

As the Social Enterprise Program Manager for Mission Australia Chris managed the Charcoal Lane program which included working with the Victorian Koorie community to establish a culturally safe framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to participate in supported training and employment within the social enterprise restaurant.

Throughout a range of professional experiences Chris’ values have remained the same. He values people as an organisation’s number one asset.

“I’m thrilled to join a strong values based organisation in ECCV. Leading the ECCV is an honour and a privilege and I’m humbled to have the chance to work with staff, Directors and members to promote the needs and aspirations of culturally diverse communities in Victoria. I look forward to meeting and hearing from all key stakeholders in 2019” Chris Christoforou.

In the near future, ECCV will host an event to introduce our new Executive Officer to our members and chat about our direction for 2019 and beyond.

We would like to acknowledge the expertise of the Acting Executive Officers Con Pagonis and Jill Morgan AM over the last few months.
