ECCV congratulates the Andrews Labor Government on being elected for a third term. We will continue to work very closely with the Government and bring to its attention the issues affecting Victoria’s multicultural communities.
ECCV chairperson Eddie Micallef welcomed the commitment to increase ECCV’s core funding, which would help meet increased demand for advocacy and support for multicultural communities.
“We welcome Labor’s commitment, which will help us continue and build on the work we’ve been doing to support migrant and refugee communities for almost 50 years,” Mr Micallef said.
Mr Micallef reiterated ECCV’s call for a new multicultural strategy for Victoria to address the needs of multicultural communities and the systemic gaps exposed by the pandemic.
“We need to do more to engage and consult with multicultural communities and work towards a new multicultural strategy, and initiatives and priorities outlined in our State Election Platform.
Racism also remains a problem and the development of the government’s Anti-racism strategy is critical to addressing racism in schools, the workplace, and across society.”
We look forward to working with the Andrews Government to support our multicultural communities over the next four years.
