Harmony Day, Cultural Diversity Week 2010

A photography project with Carlton Primary School — "What makes me special".

Carlton Primary School Class PictureTo celebrate 2010 Cultural Diversity week, ECCV and Carlton Primary School ran a photography project with some of the older children at the School. 20 children were given a disposable camera to take pictures around the theme "What makes me special". It was a way to explore the diversity and uniqueness of each child, many of who come from the Horn of Africa.

"The photos reflect the wealth of creativity and diversity in the class" said Kate Ling, ECCV Project Officer.

A presentation was held in school assembly on 18 June. Jerry Galea showed some of his amazing photos and talked about life as an international travel photographer for the Lonely Planet. Jerry, a member of the judging panel, presented the prizes for best photo.

Ross Barnett, ECCV Director, presented the school with a framed collage that included photos from all the children that had taken part. This now hangs in pride of place in the newly refurbished school reception.

ECCV would like to than Jerry Galea, Artplay and the Victorian Multicultural Commission for supporting the project.
